Installing FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT on an IBM Thinkpad 365XD

These directions are intended as a supplement to the FreeBSD Handbook and FAQ and not as stand-alone directions

1. Get *pccard* snapshot disks (kern.flp and mfsroot.flp) from current.freebsd.org. 2. Install as normal, but be certain to install the kernel source.
3. Sysinstall deposits the GENERIC kernel on the newly installed system, not the PCCARD kernel. Build a new kernel as normal, but use the PCCARD sample config file as a basis for a custom config file rather than GENERIC.
4. Sysinstall doesn't do a good job of constructing /etc/rc.conf. Here are suggested key-value pairs from my rc.conf file:

apm_enable="YES"
ampd_enable="YES"
pccard_ifconfig="inet 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0"
pccard_enable="YES"
pccard_mem="DEFAULT"
pccardd_flags="-i 10 -i 11"
allscreens_flags="80x30" # This looks much nicer than 80x25 expanded
